Last week we were delighted to welcome Mr Chris Bain, the Director of CAFOD UK, along with Rev David Brinn, the CAFOD officer for Clifton Diocese, Mr Dave Wheat, who is in charge of Youth Ministry at Clifton Diocese and Phil Gibbons, Clifton’s Communications Officer.

This visit provided us with a wonderful opportunity to personally hand over the money raised for CAFOD during Lent by the schools in the South Clifton Catholic Federation. On Friday 15 March St Gregory’s and all our partner schools in the SCCF held a joint mufti day to raise funds to support the excellent work of CAFOD. All the schools together raised a grand total of £3,429.59. Thanks and well done to all the students and staff who put such a lot of work into the fundraising effort.

During his visit Mr Bain told us about the work which CAFOD does to alleviate and prevent extreme hunger in various parts of the world. With illustrations from four real life stories he told us how CAFOD helps people to help themselves, for example by growing their own crops. More information on the inspiring work of CAFOD can be found on their website at www.cafod.org.uk.
