Y10 Rugby vs. Chew Valley
The Y10 team visited Chew Valley School for their first game of this season. The team started well and the first 15mins were played out with no score with both teams cancelling each other out. Tiring a little towards the end of the half Chew Valley scored a couple of quick try’s meaning St. Gregory’s went into half time with a slight deficit. When Chew scored early in the second half it would have been easy for the team to crumble. But rather than that all the boys showed great character and kept giving 100%. Good kicking from fly-half Justin Healy and superb running from man of the match Ethan Long saw St. Gregory’s score two excellent try’s. When strong running from the impressive Kieran Smith saw him crash over for St. Greg’s third try the team were very much back in the match. Despite resolute defence from the likes of Oliver Lynes and Fenton Davey Chew Valley wrapped up the win with a few late trys. Despite the loss the team played really well and all the players showed great spirit. Well done.

Y9 Rugby vs. Chew Valley
Being well beaten by this team last year the Y9s had a tough opening fixture of the season. However, the boys improved greatly as the season went on last year and this was evident when strong running from Elliott Brown saw him cross the line twice for an early lead. Chew hit back with scores of their own and both teams were playing some good rugby. The impressive Charlie Schofield crashed over to leave St. Gregory’s with a small lead at half time. Better rucking in the second half meant Joe Kinnear could pull the strings at fly-half and the whole team were playing really well. Further scores from Elliott Brown and a brilliant team try from Ieuan George meant St. Gregory’s were leading at the last play of the game. Despite resolute defence Chew managed to cross for a score and the game ended in a draw. A fair result overall and a brilliant start to the season. Well done all.
