I am thrilled to tell you that six St Gregory’s students have been successful in this year’s Live Canon Children’s Poetry Competition. Poems by Emil, Ella, Alex, Kaci, Haydn and Sid will be published in the Live Canon 2018 Poetry Anthology. In addition, Emil has won the Runner up Prize for her age category!

Congratulations to Emil and to all of these talented poets. The prize giving ceremony will take place at The Greenwich Theatre, London on Saturday 28 April at 2.30pm when members of the Live Canon Theatre Ensemble will perform a selection of winning poems. All poets will receive a free copy of the book containing their poems.

I am also pleased to tell you that St Gregory’s Catholic College has been awarded the Schools Prize for an outstanding set of entries from one school!

Judges said of the poetry entries:
‘We are delighted to announce the winners of this year’s children’s poetry competition. The poetry we received was of an outstanding standard. All 100 young poets on the shortlist will have their poems published in our 2018 anthology and we warmly congratulate them all.’

I hope to be able to attend the prize giving to collect St Gregory’s Prize and I hope that some of the poets will be able to come to the ceremony too. You can be sure that the school library will be stocking a few copies of the anthology containing the prize winning poems.

The following students also wrote poems which were entered into the competition and which helped St Gregory’s Catholic College win the School Prize for an outstanding set of entries from one school: Navarra, Tayah, Jodi, Bonnie, Rosie, Seb, Kieran, Ellie, Abi, Jonric, Amy, Angela, Alexandra, Niall, Atticus, James, Grace, Kolya, Willoughby, Poppy, Danny, Lauren, Amelia and Josh.
