Last week Year 11 GCSE students sampled a little of the French festive spirit whilst consolidating their language skills at a special French carol service, organised by St Bart’s Church in Bath. The evening provided an opportunity for language students to take part in a traditional French service and learn more of the French culture during the Christmas period.

The service was presented entirely in French, testing our students’ listening skills and challenging their reading skills as they sang French carols! There was an insightful presentation by a student from the University of Bath, as she described her experiences of Christmas in France, gained during a year spent in the country as part of her degree course. Readings from the Bible and a short explanation of Holman Hunt’s painting ‘Light of the World’ brought the evening to a close, followed by some chocolats chauds and pâtisserie.
