Wednesday 4 September was a historic day for St. Gregory’s and St. Mark’s and for education in Bath and North East Somerset as the doors of the New Sixth opened at St. Gregory’s Catholic College in Odd Down.

The new £2.4m facility, the Gateway Building, which includes a state of the art Learning Resource Centre, laboratories, classrooms, admin offices and a generous atrium, was finished in time to welcome the first cohort of students.

The Gateway Building is located at the southern entrance to the World Heritage City of Bath and is set to become something of a local landmark.

Executive Headteacher Mr Friel said, ‘I am delighted that so many young people have chosen the New Sixth for their post-16 education. We have developed an excellent offer, learning from the very best sixth forms in the country. The New Sixth will of course offer academic excellence as well as outstanding pastoral care and an impressive enrichment programme. Many students from St. Gregory’s and St. Mark’s have signed up to the New Sixth but I am very pleased at the number of external students who have joined us.’

The Open Evening for those considering joining the New Sixth next September takes place at St. Gregory’s on Thursday 17 October.
