Three teams of Year 12 students presented their ideas on the future development of the city of Bath to a panel of five expert judges in a fiercely fought competition on Wednesday 22 May in The New Sixth.

There were some amazing displays and working models and students gave incredibly engaging and well researched presentations to their peers and judges who included representatives from BANES Council, BuroHappold Engineering and the MOD.

The visions for Bath City were as follows:

Team West West Warriors: The reintroduction of trams to Bath and improved services for youth
Team Nexus: Integration of provision for the elderly and children
Team Echo: Schemes to reduce the impact of pollution on the city

Mr Gailey, Head of Careers at Saint Gregory’s had this to say: “I was extremely pleased with the outcomes. The idea for the competition came after reading repeated reports in FE and HE who were ill prepared for employment owing to a lack of strong interpersonal and presentation skills. This activity provided students with the ideal conditions to demonstrate their abilities and record their achievements for their CVs and so improve their future career prospects.”

The judges were also extremely impressed with the great ideas, the quality of the presentations and the enthusiasm shown by all the teams. It was a very tough decision but in the end Team Nexus were the winners, pictured above with the trophy donated by BuroHappold.

Well done to the whole team and to the presenters Rosie BR, Abigail H, Will O and Katie P and thank you to the judges and organisers – it was a really inspirational project.
