Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s been great to welcome everyone back after half term. Students have settled in really quickly and we are impressed with the maturity with which they are handling their work.

There was a second football fixture against Wellsway on Wednesday. A good competitive game with goals from B Craine, K O’Donnell and T Barton. Sadly we lost 3-5 but Mr Ackland said it was great and is keen for the next one.

We have so many exciting events organised this term that will enrich their experience. Here are a few highlights :

On Ash Wednesday, we have a speaker from Northumbria University to advise on strategies to deal with stress. Last year we learned that stress can be a good thing if prepared for and managed. A solid revision programme at this stage will have a positive impact on stress management.

On Thursday 7th, it is our year 13 Parents Evening and we hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend. We are confident it won’t be disrupted by snow this time!

It is also The National Theatre Connections in the evening and we wish our students the best of luck in this prestigious Nationwide competition! Do come along!

On Monday 11th Year 12 students are visiting the UCAS Conference at UWE in Bristol. This is a great opportunity for all students to find out whether university is right for them. Those who don’t attend will be expected to be in school to discuss alternative pathways with staff.

Dance will be having their GCSE and A Level Showcase on Tuesday 12th which is always a treat. Everyone welcome.

Finally, we are delighted that a record number of 20 students have registered for the Gold DofE award this year. Students should now have set up accounts online. There is a Training Day on Sunday. Thanks so much to Miss McCarthy for inspiring everyone.

I am proud of the open minded attitude and excellent conduct of those attending all these events and have no doubt this will continue with all the exciting opportunities ahead.
