Good evening and welcome to Prize-giving 2019-20!

Throughout the year we regularly come together to share and recognise students through our termly ‘Name and Praise’ celebrations, special Headteacher Awards, Tutor Awards and Heads of Year Assemblies to name a few.

Our Annual Prize-giving is a special occasion that marks the end of an academic year that brings together all of the achievements and endeavours of our students. Many of the awards have been in the family of Saint Gregory’s for 40 years, donated by friends, former staff and business sponsors, and this long-held tradition is a much-valued and eagerly anticipated event in the school calendar. Sadly, this year, we cannot celebrate together in the Main Hall as we normally would. However, the unusual circumstances also creates a unique opportunity that allows us to welcome our whole school community to this virtual evening, unrestricted by the physical logistics of numbers in a room!

I wish to firstly give huge congratulations to all of our students this year for everything they have achieved during these unprecedented times. You are all truly amazing!

Special congratulations to our award winners, nominated by their parents/carers and teachers, for their hard work, determination and success this academic year. You will have received a special envelope in the post this week for you to open tonight; I am truly sorry that I cannot hand these to you in person.

There is no question that this has been an extraordinary time for everyone but our staff and students have risen to the challenge and adapted incredibly to a remote form of learning. The resilience, determination and positivity shown by everyone has been an inspiration and, as a Headteacher, I couldn’t be prouder.

I hope that you will agree that tonight’s celebration is as much about everything that is wonderful and special about Saint Gregory’s as it is about the awards themselves.
