“Let us also celebrate with particular devotion the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, with its traditional procession. Our faith in the God who took flesh in order to become our companion along the way needs to be everywhere proclaimed, especially in our streets and homes, as an expression of our grateful love and as an inexhaustible source of blessings." (Pope St John Paul II)
The parish of Ss Peter & Paul and Fr Bill OSM would like to invite you to a Corpus Christi procession on Sunday 22 June here at St Gregory’s Catholic College. Arrivals at 3pm for a 3.15pm start to the procession which will take place in the school grounds. There will be tea and coffee afterwards.
The Corpus Christi procession helps us to see our life as a pilgrimage to heaven, nourished by Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. When the earliest recorded Corpus Christi procession was instituted at Cologne, Germany, in the 13th Century, the concept of transferring the reserved Blessed Sacrament with ceremonial honour was already a long established custom. The Cologne procession went out into the streets from the Cathedral and out into the streets of the city becoming an established practice for centuries to come.
The procession of the Blessed Sacrament out into the streets is rich in meaning. It expresses in a powerful way the truth that the Word made flesh has come to dwell among us (Jn 1:14), to be present in all parts of our lives. It is a special reminder that the Lord wishes to be present with all his people and sanctify them in their daily work and family lives. It is hoped that this Corpus Christi procession can serve as a reminder to all the faithful that each and every time we receive our Lord in the Eucharist he charges us to bring him out in our hearts to the people we meet and draw them back to Himself.
“In the humble signs of bread and wine, changed into the body and blood, Christ walks beside us as our strength and our food for the journey, and he enables us to become, for everyone, witnesses of hope” (Ecclesia De Eucharistia, 62, Pope St John Paul II)
This year’s Lasallian Camp at Kintbury takes place from Friday 4 July to Sunday 6 July and is open to students in Years 7 – 10. Many of our young people have attended Kintbury, either for the in-house retreats or for this unique weekend open to all Lasallian schools who camp in the groups of the site and enjoy a fun packed time. As an associate Lasallian school we are blessed with additional opportunities such as this where we get to link up with the wider Lasallian community. The annual camp brings together young people of all school ages from De La Salle schools across the district of UK, Ireland and Malta for a weekend of fun activities, friendship and reflection on what it means to be a young Lasallian. There is a varied timetable of games, discussion, reflection, challenges and more, making the most of the beautiful manor house and extensive grounds. Students will make lifelong friends from other Lasallian schools whilst sharing an experience that includes camping, bonfire, outdoor adventure activities such as archery, climbing, human table football and much more. You can see pictures and a video of previous camps here - https://www.thekintburyexperience.com/lasalliancamp.html.
The cost of the weekend is £110 which includes all activities, a camp T-shirt, wristband, travel, all meals and insurance.
