Your Personal Growth and Wellbeing

Building your future together

At The New Sixth, your personal development matters as much as your academic growth. Our dedicated team will support and challenge you to reach your full potential in an environment that balances independence with structured guidance.

You’ll enjoy greater personal freedom in a more adult setting - similar to university or the workplace - while having access to the supportive framework you need to excel. Your tutor will maintain daily contact, monitoring your progress while our comprehensive pastoral programme equips you with essential skills from effective study habits to maintaining positive mental wellbeing.

The Director of Sixth Form and Deputies know you personally and maintain an open-door policy, encouraging meaningful conversations about your experience and future aspirations. Our Sixth Form Administrator provides daily practical support as you navigate your busy schedule.

What really stood out was how the support was uniquely personal to me. The academic culture was extremely stimulating - you feel self-motivated to achieve the best you can.

- Edgar, Class of 2023

We’ll encourage you to expand your horizons beyond the classroom, developing independence both academically and personally. With tailored academic support, you’ll be challenged to take initiative, voice your opinions confidently and develop the leadership skills, self-discipline and values that will guide your future success.

Your academic progress is tracked through regular assessments and feedback shared with you and your parents. In one-to-one interviews with your tutor, you’ll develop crucial self-reflection skills while discussing achievements and receiving targeted guidance for continuous improvement.

Your parents and carers are essential partners in your sixth form journey. We welcome open communication through information evenings, consultation events, and pathways guidance sessions, ensuring everyone remains informed and engaged with your progress and opportunities.

Nurture your wellbeing

At The New Sixth, your academic success is our priority. We understand that wellbeing is foundational to achievement and our holistic approach ensures you have the support needed to develop into a confident, mature individual ready to embrace the world’s opportunities and challenges.

Our comprehensive pastoral system means there’s always someone to guide you – from your Tutor to the Director of Sixth Form. We create an environment that’s both professional and personal, building strong relationships between you and our staff so you never face challenges alone.

Your weekly tutor-led pastoral program is strategically designed to equip you with the tools needed to navigate sixth form life successfully. Covering everything from advanced study skills to wellbeing strategies and financial planning, these sessions help you develop the practical life skills essential for thriving in today’s world.

Explore your spiritual journey

The Chaplaincy at The New Sixth offers you an optional programme of activities and retreats designed to engage with spirituality in ways that resonate with young people. Our Chaplain works with staff to create a welcoming, inclusive environment for all.

As a sixth form student, you’ll have opportunities to take on leadership roles supporting the Chaplaincy’s work with younger students, developing your mentoring skills and spiritual understanding.
