St Gregory’s awarded 'Music Mark School'

Our Humanities team had the pleasure of attending the Quality Mark Awards Ceremony at the British Library in London last week. We are delighted to announce that our Geography team received the national Centre of Excellence Award from the Geographical Association, and our History team was presented with the prestigious Quality Mark Gold Award.

This Month, we completed our second ‘The Great St Gregory’s Spelling Bee’. It was a well fought competition between 18 of the school’s best spellers. This year the final two students were both from Year 7 and the overall winner was Nathan from 7G who won by correctly spelling the word ’unanimous’. Congratulations to him and to everyone who took part in this fun event.

Our Year 7s have kicked off their first Axiom Maths Circles! These after school sessions run by Mr Watson are all about exploring problem-solving, logical thinking, and creative approaches to maths in a fun, collaborative environment.

Our Year 12 and 13 Geography students and Bath Student Parliament representatives attended the Bath and District United Nations Association Conference at BRLSI on Wednesday, 12 November.

Each tutor group in the school has been preparing a poppy wreath which was brought forward in our Remembrance Masses this week.

We were honoured to be invited to attend the Remembrance memorial service at Firs Field, Combe Down yesterday. Mrs George and Mr Boutland-Smith accompanied students in cadet uniform, where we laid a wreath.

The Music department are delighted to have been recognised as a Music Mark School this year, receiving an award for Ambition and Quality Music education.

This year St Gregory's took part in the YBA Exhibition at Burdall's Yard. We had 10 students' work on show from GCSE A Level Fine Art and Photography. The private view was very busy and a great success, as always.

Students have attended Film Club in their scores with Mrs Richards and Mr Richardson this term! We enjoyed learning about Dia de los Muertos through Disney's Coco and will reveal the result of the vote for our next film. Watch this space!

Some of our staff attended a weekend at St Cassian's centre in Kintbury with other members of our Lasallian family. They spent the weekend focusing on the theme 'All is Connected' and enjoyed the time to reflect, learn and feel refreshed!

Year 7 have been enjoying visits this week to Chepstow Castle, aided by the expertise of our wonderful History team, as their very own tour-guides!

Y13 Sociology and Psychology students spent the day behind bars at Shepton Mallet prison on Friday!

We were delighted to welcome to St Gregory’s this week an exhibition of the work of St Carlo Acutis, the recently canonised teenage saint who is being spoken of as the millennial saint. https://www.miracolieucaristici.org/en/liste/list.html.

Y10 Fine Art students had a nice trip out on Monday, visiting Victoria Art Gallery in Bath. Students had a History of Art tour around the main gallery and were expertly introduced to a number of significant pieces.

On Friday Year 7 students participated in Drama & PSHE workshops. The workshops explored the theme of friendship and highlighted how challenges can be overcome through understanding and communication. The interactive piece was both charming and humorous and students engaged as writers, sound designers and directors in a range of activities. All students involved were engaging and fantastic ambassadors for our school.
