...we wish Year 11 luck with their mock exams...
It is that time of year again when we wish Year 11 luck with their mock exams which have started very well this week. We know that they have been working hard to prepare for this important milestone and our exam invigilators have been impressed with their maturity and behaviour.
On Tuesday, we were delighted to welcome some of our governors into school for their annual Governor Open Day. They enjoyed seeing Year 9 and 10 in their collective worship assembly where Mr Robinson launched our Christmas hamper and Christmas market appeal. They met with members of the Senior Leadership Team and other key staff to talk through important aspects of the school development plan; they dropped in to see some sixth form lessons in action and loved being toured around our horticultural areas by Freddie M, Michael T, Jenson W (in Year 9) and Harrison T (Year 8) who spoke eloquently about their work and the skills they are learning. We are so lucky to have such dedicated governors and wish to thank them for their care, commitment and oversight to ensure that St Gregory's is a place where young people flourish in Christ.
It has been an exciting week for trips and events. Half of Year 8 attended their visit to Longleat to see the animals and experience the magical light festival, MEP students headed to a Chinese restaurant in Bristol to sample some delicious Chinese food and students in Years 7-10 took part in mental health workshops. Thank you to the staff who organised these enrichment opportunities, Mrs Hillier-Brown, Mrs Hook and Miss Hollywood.
As part of our ongoing work to support students with pastoral issues, we held Girls on Board and Boys Do Cry sessions for Year 9 students this week with more to follow for the rest of KS3. Thank you to Miss Hollywood, Mr Dunbar and Mr Robinson for delivering sessions and opening up important conversations on friendships, relationships, self-esteem and wellbeing.
In order to mark the first Sunday of Advent this weekend, I will end with this prayer:
Almighty God, grant us the grace to hope in you with unwavering trust. As we prepare for the season of Advent, may our hearts be filled with the hope that comes from knowing your promises are true.
Amen
