Chaplain's Reflections - 6th March 2026

Stability and peace are not achieved through mutual threats...

Residential retreat to St Cassian’s, Kintbury, enjoyed by so many Year 7/8s

Last weekend, as the sun showed it’s face for the first time in 2026, or at least that’s how it felt, a group of our younger students were able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of St Cassian’s and take part in a fulfilling retreat.  The group of mixed Year 7 and 8s had the centre to themselves and took part in a host of presentations, activities, times of prayer, reflection and a very competitive quiz night!  It was such a blessing to see the students flourish and heed the message of Kintbury to be your true self as God created you to be.

Next up is the chance for our current Year 9s to participate in a residential to Kintbury from 23-26 April 2026.  Their experience will be for a full four day retreat where they get to mix with students from schools across the country and take part in even more fun, faith and friendship.  The letter has gone out to parents and carers of all those in Year 9; you can sign your child up on the Google form here and pay a deposit of £65 by Monday 30 March on the school gateway app.  If your child entitled to Pupil Premium or receives free school meals, please tick the box on the Google form and we will be in touch to offer a significant discount.

We also thank Sara and Ale from the team at St Cassian’s for coming over to St Gregory’s this week and talking about the gap year opportunity volunteering on the team.  As a Lasallian retreat centre so close to us it would be wonderful to have one of our own former students offer a year of service and community to lead fellow young people in faith.

Pope Leo’s Call for Peace

"Stability and peace are not achieved through mutual threats, nor through the use of weapons, which sow destruction, suffering, and death, but only through reasonable, sincere, and responsible dialogue. Faced with the possibility of a tragedy of enormous proportions, I address to the parties involved a heartfelt appeal to assume the moral responsibility to stop the spiral of violence before it becomes an irreparable abyss!"

“Pray for peace, work for peace, less hatred. Hatred in the world is constantly increasing. May diplomacy recover its role and may the good of peoples be promoted, peoples who long for peaceful coexistence founded on justice.”
