The joy of the Resurrection is almost here
As students break up on Wednesday next week this is the final newsletter of Term 4.
Term 4 has almost come to an end but not before we gather together for our Easter Liturgies of the Word next Wednesday. This week, tutor groups have explored the inspirational life of St Oscar Romero who is one of our House saints. Like Oscar Romero, we are called to stand up for injustice, seek the right path even when it is potentially the most difficult one and care for those who are on the peripheries.
It's been a busy week for trips, visits and events with Mr Richardson delivering Anti-Bullying workshops to a group of our KS3 students who have volunteered to become Anti-Bullying Ambassadors, such an instrumental and essential role in any school community. Year 10 Young Volunteers attended one of our partner primary schools - St Benedict's, Midsomer Norton, to deliver powerful workshops about welcoming refugees and helping younger pupils understand what it might be like to be displaced from one's country. They will also visit St Mary's, Bath, next week to work with their primary counterparts on the same project.
Mr Burn accompanied sixth formers to the BANES Oxbridge conference and the Science department arranged for sixth form students to visit 'We The Curious' to enrich their learning. Our talented dramatists are performing their version of 'Cloud Busting' at Bristol Old Vic tonight and we wish them the best of luck - break a leg! Our KS3 Harmony Rising Group worked with students from Ralph Allen and The Royal High to write their own song which will be performed at Bath Abbey on 15 May - save the date for your diary. Year 11 Photography students have been busy with their final exams this week - they have worked so creatively to produce outstanding work on a range of subjects. A group of intrepid sixth formers have set out for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition this weekend and we hold them in our prayers. Thanks to all the staff involved in organising this rich diet of extra-curricular opportunities to widen our students' horizons and extend learning beyond the classroom.
Options Evening was a great success and it was fantastic to see so many Year 9 students and their families engage with the process of deciding next steps. This is an important time for Year 9 students and their families so we also keep them in our prayers. A reminder that the deadline for choosing final GCSE options is Tuesday 31 March.
In staffing news as we approach the end of term, we say goodbye to Mr Herron, as per my previous correspondence, and thank him for his contribution to academic leadership. We also say a fond farewell to Miss Hollywood who has secured promotion to Assistant Headship at a school in Salisbury - huge thanks for all you've done over the years, you will be greatly missed and always part of our family. Miss Bendall will take over as Head of Year 9 and knows our students very well having been their Head of Year 7 and Transition Lead. We are delighted to have appointed Miss Thomas Stone as the new Head of Year 7 and Transition Lead and know she will look after this year group brilliantly, bringing all her knowledge of inclusion into this role. Miss Johnson goes on maternity leave and we wish her all the best. We look forward to Mr Stagpool arriving as her maternity cover for Business and Computing.
This weekend several staff who are Lasallian Animators at St Greg's are attending a gathering at St Cassian's retreat centre, Kintbury, with other colleagues from across our district of GB, Ireland and Malta. Mr Richardson, Mrs Cottis, Mrs Sarbatta, Miss Hollywood, Miss Hill and I look forward to deepening our understanding of the Lasallian charism further in the beautiful Berkshire countryside and taking time out for collaboration, reflection and prayer.
"A uniform isn't just clothing; it's respect sewn into threads." Please ensure outgrown uniform is replaced over the holiday - many girls' skirt lengths are too short as they have grown so please replace items as necessary. Jewellery and make up has also crept in again at the end of this term, as well as the low wearing of boys' trousers. Items will be confiscated, makeup wipes will be provided to remove makeup and repeat uniform misconduct will result with time spent in our Damascus room. Please support these uniform expectations with conversations at home over the holidays so that all students return wearing their uniform respectfully and with pride.
The joy of the Resurrection is almost here and I wish you the most blessed Easter full of quality family time. Safe travels if you are venturing away and I look forward to being back together on Monday 20 April.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ,
who died for our sins and rose again to give us new life.
Thank You for the hope and joy that His Resurrection brings to our lives.
Help us to be witnesses of Your love and to share the good news of salvation with others.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Live Jesus in our Hearts Forever.
