Headteacher's Reflections - 5th June 2026

This term is characterised by lots of hard work and commitment ... but it's also a term of celebration

Welcome back to Term 6 which is a time where we bring our whole school theme Dare To Be Glowing Saints together in a variety of ways. This term is characterised by lots of hard work and commitment in the form of examinations, assessments and end of year tests. But it's also a term of celebration: Sports Days, a summer concert, art showcase and our annual Prize-giving, to name but just a few.

This week Year 10 have shown what powerful orators they are at the St Gregory's Public Speaking Competition. Our competitors bravely stood up in front of their teachers, all of Year 9 and some of their parents to speak about issues that they feel passionately about, such as gender inequality in sport, dyslexia and the normalisation of racism. The judges had a hard time selecting a winner because all twelve speakers were outstanding and so eloquent but this year we have crowned Ana T a worthy winner for her emotive speech on misogyny in today's society.  Congratulations Ana - she will be awarded her trophy at Prize-giving. Thanks to the English Department and Mr Hayward for organising such a fantastic event.

In collective worship assemblies this week Mrs Cottis has talked to us about Corpus Christi, which Catholics in the UK celebrate as a Holy Day of Obligation this Sunday. She reminded us of the power of the Eucharist and gave us all the mission to live out our faith boldly, being inspired by saints such as Carlo Acutis who said the Eucharist was his 'highway to heaven.' In our Parent Prayer and PTFA Coffee and Cake today we prayed for all staff, students parents and carers of St Gregory's Catholic College, that they may flourish in Christ and live out our Christian mission daily.

As the weekend approaches, this prayer for Corpus Christi will help nourish you and provide you with comfort and joy:

We come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the gift of the Eucharist.
Thank You for the body and blood of Christ,
which nourishes our souls and unites us in love.
May we always cherish this sacred mystery and grow in faith,
reflecting Your light in the world.
Amen
.
