Headteacher's Reflections - 10th July 2026

...Thank you for your support this year and God bless. Live Jesus in our hearts forever.

On your marks...get set...GO! Those words rang out on our field and astro this week as the heats culminated in some excellent displays of sporting prowess from our talented students at our annual Sports Day. Our students showed us what it means to be a glowing saint with field and track events being highly competitive, with some students achieving personal or school bests.  Congratulations to all who participated and those who won their events. It was also lovely to see the rest of the school in high spirits and cheering on their House. As always, it was a close competition but congratulations to Romero who won this year's Sports Day.

We also enjoyed a musical soiree on Thursday evening in the school hall where a large number of our gifted musicians, singers and spoken word poets came together to perform at our Summer Concert. Performers coped admirably with the soaring temperatures and the audience were appreciative of their incredible performances. Huge thanks to Mrs Sterlini, Mr Singh, Mrs Richards and the peripatetic teachers for preparing our students to showcase their talents so well.

Year 10 GCSE Drama students performed their devised piece today - well done for achieving this milestone in your two year course. The set design this year was particularly impressive - what a talented cohort.

It is that time of year where we have to say a fond farewell to some of our staff. We say goodbye to teaching colleagues Mrs McHale, Mrs West (although she assures me that she will be back next year to help with cover lessons), Mr Arnold, Mr Ackland, Mr Watson, Mrs Wright, Mr Singh and Mr Stagpool. We also say goodbye to some of our LSAs: Rev Avramenko, Mrs Matovski, Mr Maclaren and Miss Witfield. We thank them all for their service, contributions and dedication while working at St Gregory's and wish them luck in their next steps.

We are delighted to welcome to our family Mr Fuller (Teacher of Maths), Mrs Kiano (Teacher of Science - maternity cover), Mr Stephens (Teacher of RE), Mrs Ustundeniz (Teacher of DT), Miss Watts (Teacher of PE) and Miss Young (Teacher of Drama). Mr Brodie will be taking over as Head of PE, Mr Healy has been appointed Head of Year 8 and Mr Saunders Head of Year 11 from September.

Next week, we have our KS3 Enrichment Week, a fun-filled week where students try new things and forge friendships while making memories. Year 10 and 12 head out into work experience where they will learn what it is like to manage a job in a different setting, develop new skills and make connections which will prepare them for their powerful futures. I hope everyone has a fantastic week, whatever they are doing. Term ends at 1.30pm on Tuesday 21 July and attendance is mandatory until the end of term.

I wish you a wonderful summer filled with joy and relaxation; if you are travelling near or far, may your journeys be safe. Thank you for your support this year and God bless. Live Jesus in our hearts forever.
