Year 7 induction retreat days, Our Lady & St Alphege’s RC Church & Hall

This week we had three superb days down at one of our local parishes with all of our new cohort of Year 7s. A vital part of being a Catholic school is the provision of a retreat programme, an opportunity to take a step back and pause for reflection, re-evaluation and contemplation. For our wonderful Year 7s this meant they got to take part in a packed day full of workshops, quizzes, drama, prayer and reflection on the theme of ‘You are all God’s chosen people’(Colossians 3:12) and looking at what it means to be part of a Lasallian community. After a hectic start to their life at St Gregory’s a retreat day ensures they are able to check in with themselves, their new classmates and God but also look to the future and their next seven years as part of the community and family of St Gregory’s.

Some of the tasks and activities throughout the day got students to prepare a letter and reflection sheet for opening on their leavers day in 2031 or 2033. They also explored some of the challenges of being in secondary school through drama, considering how they follow their own conscience, as well as some artwork on ‘being Lasallian’. As a year group they impressed us so much with their maturity and positive energy – we look forward to them embracing all parts of life at their new school.
