Come ye thankful people come...
Come ye thankful people come,
Raise the song of harvest home!
All is safely gathered in,
Ere the winter storms begin;
God our Maker, doth provide
For our wants to be supplied:
Come to God's own temple, come,
Raise the song of harvest home.
Henry Alford (1810-1878)
It's Harvest time again as the poem above reminds us and this week we have been delighted to welcome Pat from Bath, Keynsham and Somer Valley Food bank to speak to students about the important work that goes into running a food bank. She also thanked us for our generous donations in previous years. This Harvest, we are asking students to donate some non-perishable goods as part of our commitment to Catholic Social Teaching and our Lasallian principles, in particular having concern for the poor and social justice. The statistics Pat shared with us are concerning; so many families rely on donations from food banks so, as a community, let's play our part in helping to feed those less fortunate and make a positive difference in our local community.
We have been delighted to welcome hundreds of visitors to our family this week in our series of Open Events and our students have shone so brightly. Prospective families all commented on the warm welcome, happy and calm atmosphere, high quality lessons and the upgraded facilities as well as the wonderful way our guides showed them proudly around their school. Thank you to all for making these events so successful.
As the colder weather arrives please may I remind families that outer coats must be plain without obvious logos; some students are choosing to wear inappropriate outer wear such as hoodies or coats with extreme logos.
It's the Bath Children's Literature Festival this weekend so please encourage young people to engage in reading for pleasure daily; we know what a difference this makes to their wellbeing as well as their academic outcomes. You may even want to pop down to hear from authors and enjoy the festival events if you are free this weekend.
