This week in our school community: 9 October 2026
Headteacher's Reflections - 9th October 2026

It's been an incredibly busy week at St Gregory's....

Our series of Autumn Open Events concluded with last night's Sixth Form Open Evening where we were delighted to welcome Year 10 and Year 11 students to meet teachers, speak to current sixth formers, find out about our prestigious scholarship awards, discover the personalised support we offer and see our upgraded facilities.

All Year 11 students experienced a taste of life in sixth form this week, with the vast majority attending A level lessons at the New Sixth with some heading off to St Brendan's Catholic College to find out about level 2 qualifications and alternative pathways.

It was also wonderful to welcome the singer, Shao Hao, a British Chinese artist who not only blew the audience away with his incredible voice but also his personal story about his career into music, identity issues, mental health, living a long way from family and other struggles he has faced. He was really inspirational and his main message to our young people was that they should never struggle alone. Huge thanks to Mrs Sterlini for organising such a brilliant learning event and a reminder that if any child is struggling they should talk to a trusted adult or use the online Worry Box - The Worry Box.

Year 7 have also enjoyed visits to Thoulstone Park and we thank the PE department for arranging this opportunity for students to continue bonding as a year group, push themselves out of their comfort zones and have some good fun along the way.

Mr Robinson and I attended the Bath Radio Awards event this week and although we did not win the category of Best Community Group, for which we were nominated, we loved seeing the Ben Saunders Foundation win an award and two of our Year 10 students, Charles GM and Aadam AL won highly commended for their excellent community engagement work. We couldn't be prouder of these achievements.

Mrs Sarbatta launched Black History Month with a moving assembly with this year's theme being 'honouring our communities'. A key takeaway: it is important to recognise the often-unseen work that goes on in schools, colleges, parishes, local charities and other sections of everyday society and students were asked to consider how they can make our school as inclusive and welcoming as possible for all.

Finally, I was delighted to welcome the Director of Education for Clifton Diocese, Mary Cox, to St Gregory's Catholic College this week for a tour and a productive discussion on how the Diocese can continue working together with schools for the common good of all. She was impressed by the high-quality teaching, excellent behaviour and general tidiness of our school site.

Live Jesus in our hearts forever!
