Culture & Diversity Week 26: Flourishing Together
We are very excited for our annual Culture & Diversity celebrations next week where we will explore what it means to be a flourishing community that has so much to celebrate. Following on from the letter sent out on Monday 12 October, here are a few reminders and highlights that are coming up:
Students can bring in food from around the world. Share great snacks or treats from your own background and try something new. All food will be sold for a donation and funds donated to Bath Welcomes Refugees. Plus art workshop, try a new sport at lunch and plot on the heritage map.
Art workshop, try a new sport, heritage map, guest speakers.
Students are invited to attend school in national dress, clothing that represents their family or cultural heritage or the colours of the flag. There is no charge - this is a day to celebrate our diversity and appreciate the richness of our community. Cultural Karaoke - Lunchtime karaoke with song choices from across the globe plus more art and sport.
Each day of the week our school caterers will have additional food choices from around the world - you can see the exciting options in the picture below. We hope everyone enjoys the great celebration of the family of St Gregory's. It always proves to be a wonderful end to the first term.
On Wednesday this week, a group of our Chaplaincy students joined me at the annual Camino Partnership Chaplaincy Training Day. I am blessed with so many young people at St Gregory's who love to be involved in Chaplaincy - leading campaigns, setting up for school liturgies, reading, creating displays and being messengers of the Gospel in all parts of school life. So many of those students come from our partner Camino primary schools who create and support their own Chaplaincy teams and we are proud to be involved in helping empower those primary school children at the annual Chaplaincy training day. I took a wonderful group of Year 9 and Year 12 students along to Downside School to be a part of this special day and they were full of zeal and enthusiasm whilst leading a workshop on prayer spaces in schools. As well as sharing their knowledge and experience during the workshops, we all gathered as a partnership of schools in the Basilica of St Gregory the Great for a celebration of Mass. It was a beautiful time of prayer for our schools as we begin another school year where the mission of Catholic Education is embodied in the love and care of our students.
