Our aim is to ignite students’ imagination about the world today, and how people, events and natural processes have shaped it. Geography provides young people with a context for understanding themselves and their position in the world, with reference points for facing the future as responsible citizens within our community. It encourages the development of personal skills such as independence, communication and critical thinking, as well as the clear enhancement of social, moral, spiritual and cultural development. We believe that providing students with a high quality Geography experience, will offer them ‘a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives’ (DfE 2013).
The study of Geography encourages students to think and decide for themselves, and be tolerant of the views of others. We aim to help prepare young people for their roles and responsibilities as good citizens. We endeavour to develop the self-esteem and self-discipline of our students, and develop their God-given talents so that they realise their potential to the full.

WHY GEOGRAPHY?
St Gregory’s has held the prestigious Secondary Geography Quality Mark since 2014 and became a national Geography Centre of Excellence in 2022, with an extremely successful re-accreditation in 2025.
The two-year AQA Geography A Level course will excite minds, challenge perceptions and stimulate investigative and analytical skills. It is a real mix of human, physical and environmental geography. If you have an interest in people, the natural environment and world cities you will really enjoy this current, contemporary and very relevant course. With a mixture of human, physical and environmental geography, you will explore real issues facing the world such as population growth and the impact of natural hazards on people around the world.

Compulsory three-day residential at Slapton Field Studies Centre, Devon, for individual investigative research for the Non-Exam Assessment (NEA).
EXTRA AND SUPER CURRICULAR
A visit to the MShed and Harbourside in Bristol; a visit to the village of Lacock in Wiltshire and Tetbury in Gloucestershire; numerous Geographical Association events throughout the two-year course at UWE, and Bristol University.
