Lasallian Camp 2025

Last weekend 40 students and several staff (both current and past!) ventured to the beautiful Berkshire countryside for the annual celebratory event for the Lasallian family of schools in our district – Lasallian Camp.  With the promise of sunshine and only a few minor showers, our young people turned up full of energy and enthusiasm, with tents going up in record time. The same can’t be said for taking them down on Sunday morning where fatigue and lack of sleep reigned supreme.

Our camp began with a BBQ, some games to get the 150+ young people acquainted with one another and a roaring campfire late in the evening.  There were schools representing the length and breadth of the UK including De La Salle Jersey who made the long trip over on the ferry. Saturday was filled with a jam-packed carousel of activities to keep everyone brimming with joy.  New friendships blossomed, new skills learnt, memories created and some unique sights witnessed – namely Sr Mary John, Chaplain from Cardinal Langley, getting stuck in on the inflatable table football and climbing wall in full habit.  For our students it was a great blessing for them to see and hear a woman so young fulfilling her vocation as a religious sister.

There were many highlights but the final Good News Liturgy is always inspiring to see.  Each school presents what their Good News of the weekend is (in the most creative way) and how they are going to take that Good News back to others, how they become the witnesses, the evangelists.  The talent of young people was something to behold, with our friends from Manchester quite rightly rewriting and performing an Oasis classic, DLS St Helens showcasing an original song and our own St Gregory’s students used a mixture of comedic skits, drama and heartfelt prose to capture the magic of the weekend.  We were so incredibly proud of all who took the plunge and chose to attend.  The smiles on faces throughout the camp speak volumes about how much they appreciated and enjoyed the experience.
