‘You are all God’s chosen people’ (Colossians 3:12)
A vital part of being a Catholic school is the provision of a retreat programme. They are exactly as the word ‘retreat’ suggests, an opportunity to take a step back and pause for reflection, re-evaluation and contemplation. For our new cohort of Year 7s they were taken to nearby St Alphege’s for a day exploring the theme: ‘You are all God’s chosen people’ (Colossians 3:12) and looking at what it means to be part of a Lasallian community. The day involved workshops, activities, prayer and reflection giving our students a springboard for seven years of being the best version of themselves at St Gregory’s and the New Sixth.
One of the tasks was building on our assemblies introducing the International Lasallian Days of Peace, encouraging all of our young people to be the bridge and connection to a more peaceful world. Peace in our world, in our communities and families can only ever come from the peace within each of our hearts. Students were each given a cut out microphone which they decorated and shared their message or prayer for peace upon. All of those 174 visual symbols of the united voices of our young people now circle doves and a giant globe in our school Chapel to create a stunning display.
Thank you to all those who made Wednesday such a poignant and fitting send off for Ms Cusack. It was so touching to see students, staff and parents, both past and present, at a packed out St Catharine’s in Frome for her funeral. The tribute to Ann back at school, however, is something I don’t think I’ll ever forget. The sight and respect of an entire school lining the street from Odd Down roundabout and all through the school grounds was incredibly moving. I know the family truly appreciated it and I’m told the funeral directors were even moved to shed a tear or two. Thank you to all your children for making us so proud, for being glowing saints.
