...go forth and commit to making a difference...
It's been an incredibly busy week and a buzz of activity in our sixth form with sixth formers attending the Inspire Conference at Prior Park College, a university, apprenticeships and careers fair at Ashton Gate and our early entrance students attending Kingswood school for support with their Oxbridge applications. In addition, we were delighted to welcome Year 11 into The New Sixth on Wednesday for their Discover Sixth Day. Some of our Year 11 students instead visited both Bath College sites to look at alternative pathways to A levels and I know all Year 11 students enjoyed their experience of discovering what their next steps could look like. On top of all that, we held our Sixth Form Open Evening and it was wonderful to see so many Year 10 and Year 11 students on the night to help support them in choosing the right path for their next steps.
Our focus on Catholic Social Teaching principles was brought to the fore by Mr Boutland-Smith in our Collective Worship assemblies this week. By reminding all students and staff about the core eight CST principles, the community was encouraged to go forth and commit to making a difference in at least one of the principles, whether it is to bring calm and peace when there is disorder or to be a steward of creation by picking up litter.
On that note, please can I respectfully ask families to park in the Park and Ride rather than in our school car park, on the road running through our school or on the yellow lines just off the roundabout. Parking in these areas is a hazard and can put children's lives at risk. All students can walk the short distance to the Park and Ride where staff are on duty to supervise and ensure their safety.
Thank you for all your generous donations for our Harvest Food Bank collection; we are so very grateful for your support and know that your food items will make a real difference in the lives of our local community. This is CST in action!
Please do take some time to read Bishop Bosco's letter in this newsletter regarding the atrocious attacks on the Jewish community of Manchester last week. His message of peace and prayer is especially fitting in the month of October when we pray the rosary and dedicate our prayers to those in need. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
