Headteacher's Reflections - 17th October 2025

Our staff and students did us proud ...

We were delighted to welcome an experienced team of Catholic school inspectors to St Gregory's this week to judge the quality of Catholic life and mission, RE teaching and collective worship and prayer. Our staff and students did us proud and showcased what an excellent Catholic education for the whole person looks like in practice - academically, personally and spiritually. Thank you to all the staff and families who completed the inspection surveys; your views matter to us and we are always keen to hear what you think works well and any suggestions for improvements. I will share the outcome of the two-day inspection with you in due course.

A dedicated team of Year 8 and Year 13 students headed off to Downside this week to be leaders of faith at the Chaplaincy training day for primary school children. Our brilliant students are such excellent servant leaders and imparted their wisdom and experience to help our partner primary school chaplaincy teams grow and develop in their roles. Well done to Thandi, Edara, Ama, Isobel, Clara, Andria and Lucy who were all stars of this trip for their wonderful contributions. Thank you to Mrs West for accompanying our students.

Next week please do find time to head over to Burdall's Yard Gallery in Bath where you will find some of our talented GCSE and A level art and photography work on display. We are an integral part of the Bath Education Partnership and our students' work will be curated alongside students from all of the other state and independent schools in Bath; it promises to be a brilliant collection of creativity and inspiration. The exhibition runs until the Saturday 1 November with the private viewing on Thursday 23 October 6-8:30pm. I hope to see many of you there.

As we dare to be glowing saints, let's end with a prayer dedicated to St Gregory the Great:

St Gregory, you are known for your zeal for the Catholic faith, love of liturgy, and compassion and mercy toward those in need.

Please help and guide us so that we may share in these virtues and thereby bring Jesus into the hearts of our families and all we encounter.

We especially ask for blessings on our parish family, our priests and our deacons.

I also ask that you graciously intercede for me before God so that I might be granted the special assistance and graces that I seek.

Help me to live as a faithful child of God and to attain the eternal happiness of heaven.

St Gregory the Great, pray for us. Amen.
