Headteacher's Reflections - 7th November 2025

...It is a joy to see your faith, care and hard work recognised so clearly...

Welcome back to Term 2 and we've already had a busy start with House Netball and Rugby and our KS4 Meet the Tutor evening. Please keep an eye on the St Gregory's Facebook page to see regular news updates and photos of some of the other amazing things that happen in school.

'S' tutor groups have presented wonderful collective worship assemblies on the importance of All Saints and All Souls Day, including information on the historical, religious and cultural importance of marking these days in the liturgical calendar. November is the month where we remember our lost loved ones and all those who have died; a reminder that the Chapel is open to all staff and students for quiet prayer and reflection. Please see the Chaplain's timetable for opening times.

I have noticed in recent weeks that a number of our students are eating sweets and lollies at school, as well as fizzy drinks and energy drinks. A polite reminder that, as a healthy school, sweets, candies, lollies, fizzy drinks and energy drinks are not allowed on site. Staff may, on the odd occasion, give out sweets as a reward but this is rare and we use our House Point system to reward students for excellent effort, attainment and for displaying core school and Lasallian values. Please speak to your child about not bringing banned food and drinks items into school. This also includes chewing gum which is strictly forbidden.

I wish to end by sharing with you the most wonderful email I received on Monday from Bishop Bosco. He took time out of his incredibly busy schedule to write words of praise for our recent OUTSTANDING inspection result and to commend the school community:

Dear Mrs George and all at St Gregory’s

My warm congratulations on an outstanding inspection report. It is a joy to see your faith, care and hard work recognised so clearly. The report speaks of Christ at the centre of your community, of exemplary pastoral care, and of a school where students truly flourish. All of this reflects what I have seen first hand when I visited.

Such praise is richly deserved. It comes through the dedication of every member of staff, the leadership you give, and the daily witness of faith and service that shape your school’s life.

Please pass on my gratitude and congratulations to the governors, chaplains, students and families who make St Gregory’s a place where “in Christ we flourish” rings true.

With every blessing and thanks Bishop Bosco

On that note, we look forward to welcoming you to Parent Prayer on Thursday morning.

Melissa George
