Headteacher's Reflections - 14th November 2025

Lest we forget...

Such famous words and so important as we come together as a community to remember all the fallen heroes who have fought in wars and conflicts, both past and present. This week Mrs Sarbatta and Mr Norberg delivered profoundly moving collective worship assemblies on the visible and invisible wounds that soldiers suffer from and included personal stories of their grandparents' and great-grandparents' remarkable experiences in the world wars.

We held two moving Masses in school where each tutor group delivered a home-made poppy wreath to the altar as a mark of respect and remembrance. Thank you to Fr Bill and Fr Tibor for celebrating Eucharist with us. Mr Boutland Smith and I took a group of some of our uniformed students from groups such as Scouts, Cadets and St John Ambulance to Firs Field for a moving memorial service where we joined Fr Bill, other local priests, representatives from the forces, Combe Down Primary School and members of the local community. You may have spotted us on BBC Points West on Tuesday!

Ten of our sixth formers enjoyed going to the BRLSI this week to participate in the Bath United Nations Assembly which was an excellent opportunity to brush up on their presentation skills and engage in interesting ideas and debates with other sixth formers from across the city.

To end, I will leave you with this prayer to remember all those who have died on the battlefields, as well as all of our loved ones who we have lost:

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,

and let perpetual light shine upon them.

May the souls of all who have died in war,

and all the faithful departed,

through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
