Headteacher's Reflections - 6th February 2026

"...students can find out anything at the simple touch of a button..."

Artificial Intelligence is an exciting form of technology that now shapes much of our daily life, from apps to cybersecurity, healthcare to agriculture, there are enormous benefits which drive innovation, solve complex problems and increase efficiency. In Internet Safety Week Mr Foley has been keen to highlight the many benefits of using AI, with the world of education being no exception. Worksheets and lesson resources can be created in seconds rather than hours which reduces teacher workload and students can find out anything at the simple touch of a button.

However the assembly also focused on the pitfalls and dangers of AI. Plagiarism, gaining news from unreliable sources, deepfakes and cyberbullying are very real risks for our young people. The key message is that AI must never replace human intelligence. AI lacks the creativity, intuition, ethical reasoning and emotions that humans possess.

When exploring the concept of emergent technologies, sad cases of young people being negatively affected by bullying, hate and radicalisation can spring to mind. At our parent prayer this week it was poignant to reflect on why our young people matter and I will leave you with the reflection we sat with in our chapel:

You might think you don't matter in this world,

But because of you someone has a favourite mug to drink their tea out of each morning that you bought them.

Someone hears a song on the radio and it reminds them of you.

Someone has read a book you recommended to them and got lost in its pages.

Someone's remembered a joke you told them and smiled to themselves on the bus.

Someone's tried on a top and felt beautiful because you once complimented them on it.

Someone has a memory of you that makes them grin.

Someone now likes themselves a little more because you made a passing comment that made them feel good.

It's not just young people that need to remember why they matter, adults do too. We are all made in the image and likeness of God and are called to be glowing saints who spread light and kindness to all we meet, both in the real world and online world.

Have a wonderful weekend.
