Year 8 Hockey: The Year 8 team went to Norton Hill on Wednesday 17 April to compete in the re-arranged BANES Hockey Tournament. They were in a pool with Somervale, Norton Hill and Hayesfield.

In the games against Norton Hill and Hayesfield the girls made some brilliant drives down the pitch and kept the ball in the opponents attacking half for most of the game. With narrowly missed shots on goal they were unlucky to come away with a 0-0 score. However, the game against Somervale the girls made vast improvements and Mia scored the wining goal taking Saint Gregory’s through to the 3rd and 4th play-off versus Oldfield. In the final game of the tournament the girls battled up and down the pitch, with excellent defensive skills and brilliant counter attacks from Mia and Patsy making the final score 2-1 to Saint Gregory’s.

Congratulations to all the girls who played. Mia, Raffy and Olivia all received player’s player from the opposite team. Mrs McHale’s player was Mia!

Squad: Raffy, Charlotte, Olivia, Mia, Sophia, Grace, Patsy, Ruby, Sophie, Ava, Eleanor, Maddy

Spring School Games 2018: The Year 8 & 9 football team left bright and early on Thursday 19 April to compete in the Spring School Games at Bristol Grammar School sports ground. They qualified for this round by coming runners-up in the BANES football competition. They were entered into a pool with Bedminster Down, St. Bernadettes, Castle, Worle and Broadlands. The girls fought in every game with excellent attacking drives down the pitch, but unfortunately could not convert them into a goals. Kaci has to be commended for her amazing saves as goalie. Saint Gregory’s only conceded 2 goals out of the whole tournament!

Excellent effort from our attackers and mid field players who never stopped trying to score, ensuring the ball stayed in our attacking half. Credit must go to our defenders who never stopped running and tackling to prevent attacking drives from the opposition. Ciara was Mrs McHale’s player of the match. She was absolutely fearless in defence, preventing numerous attempts on goal.

Squad: Ciara, Millie, Poppy, Sophie, Helena, Mia, Raffy, Patsy, Kaci, Daisy

Congratulations to all the girls who played – a fantastic effort from everybody!
